Oslo City has many museums, galleries, theatres, parks,
and as well as the Royal Palace many stately homes
and historic buildings.
If you are a lover of art, then there are many opportunities
to view some of the world and Oslo masterpieces and
get information on them. One of the more interesting
Oslo museums is the Munch Museum and it is full of
information on Oslo painter Edvard Munch
(1863 – 1944) - a painter and printmaker who
has a unique position in the Nordic countries. He
is one of the pioneers of expressionism. Together
with Van Gogh, Munch is regarded as the main source
of German Expressionism. Of course he is the painter
of the famous "The Scream" and "The
Madonna". "The Scream" is in fact not
in the Munch Museum but in the Oslo National Gallery.
The National Gallery also offers a large collection
of exquisite works of art with painters such as Edvard
Munch, Christian Krogh and J.C. Dahl being on display
and adorning the walls of this very interesting gallery.
Here, you can see Edvard Munch’s most famous
painting - The Scream. More information on Oslo National
Gallery can be found on their website - see the link
below.
If you want an experience that is more unusual and
different to do, then you could try visiting The Polar
Ship Fram. This vessel was constructed in 1892 by
Scottish-Norwegian shipbuilder Colin Archer, and was
used by Fridtjof Nansen on the first Fram Voyage across
the ice surrounding the North Pole.
