Oslo Royal PalaceThe Oslo Royal Palace - The head of state of Norway is King Harald. Norway is a constitutional monarchy, and the Royal Palace is an impressive building so if you're into architecture and history this is for you. The palace is located just at the end of the Karl Johan Street. You'll see a massive statue of Karl Johan right front of the Palace. King Karl Johan was the king of Sweden and Norway from about 1818 to 1844.

The Royal Palace was completed in 1848 and in recent years has been restored and renovated. Around the Palace is a wide space which is popular for both tourists and the local Oslo people. If you weather is pleasant you should take time to It has a popular recreation area, making it the ideal place for tourists to visit and spend some time

There are beatufully manicured gardens and several small lakes in the area surrounding the Oslo Royal Palace. The impression of royalty and wealth is undeniable when you stand before this imposing and expansive palace. Visitors will often see armed guards at the palace entrances, and the ceremony of changing of the guard occurs every day at 1:30 pm.

The Palace is open to visitors in the summer months and you can have a guided tour - in English - through some of the wonderful and historic rooms. The tour lasts for one hour. Tickets you can get in any Norwegian post office or at the Palace on the day, if tickets are available. Tours are at 12, 14.00, 14.20 every day during the summer but there is no 12.00 tour on Sundays.

On the 17th May which is the Norway Constitution Day, there is a major ceremony with dancing children, half or more of the population of Oslo and marching bands all saluting the Royal Family. If you are in Oslo on May 17th make sure to catch this great Oslo event.
